Munnabhai - a test of faith
I hear that "Lage Raho Munnabhai " may be India's nomination to the Oscars. I had to check it out.
It is certainly a gut wrenching movie in a nice way. I remember the times as little kids, wherein the smallest of things would be earth shattering, inspiring me to reach all sorts of noble behavior, and the strong desire to do some goodness in the world. This one generated that same sorta feeling.
There are two sides of every coin, but what I want to dwell upon is the faith that Munnabhai exhibits while going through an ordeal. Of course, in real life, things don't play out so smooth and there are too many variables in the equation, but what if we know that the end result will be all good (moksha?) if we stayed on the path of truth (just a simple thing, truth), wouldn't we all do it?
I think we all do know it, but the truth is a hard act to follow. I have been punished for telling the truth and it always stuck in my mind as "not the street smart thing to do". And in this day and age, I am afraid also of being perceived an eccentric (not kewl) and cut away from the mainstream. I must say I am scared of not being part of main stream society, as I would then be categorized as a recluse, and I do wonder if once the doors close, will they ever open again. But a part of us is driven by the need to be financially well-off, and all our instincts help us in that endeavor.
But I really do wonder, if we know that leading life to the truest extent, being true to our own character, is the only way to true happiness, why do we not go down the path?
And the actors have performed effortlessly - or so it seems - but it does seem to me that roles like these cannot be enacted, you have to be truly one, cannot con the audience. Sanjay Dutt is playing his last innings, but giving us moments of pure joy, making it all worthwhile, may this stint go into extra innings. And.....the Sari is back in vogue and Vidya Balan is poised for greatness.
Welcome to the spirituality blog
This blog is an offshoot of a website that I had conceived as a result of the spiritual grace and resultant inspiration during Shivaratri Y2K (http://www.jyotirlinga.com) on the joy of Shiva Bhakti and my quest for spiritual progress. Not finding the time (yep, bad excuse!), this blog suits me fine in quickly adding content... my spiritual forays and thoughts - helps log them too. My spiritual journey started with Hinduism and it's simple stories/ teachings as far back as when I was a 2nd grader, with Lord Shiva and has now found convergence with Advaitism / Duality. The Advaitism gurus like Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi, Nisargadatta Maharaj; they have provided that spiritual boost of energy in many lagging moments and have tremendously influenced me ... little baby steps at a time... that will hopefully all lead upto a final crescendo. The merits of satsangh are many!
