India’s favourite gurus have a touring schedule that would put the hardest-working bands in show business to shame. Since 1987, Mata Amritanandamayi has visited all the continents of the world, and regular destinations include the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Switzerland, Holland, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius and Reunion Islands. She recently started going to Africa, in particular Kenya.

In addition to this, she travels extensively within India , and is on the road for nine months every year. Her upcoming tour of the US through June and July will see her moving from coast to coast. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar speaks in 40 countries annually and has travelled to 175 cities.

Fans the world over can also keep in touch through merchandise. The band analogy is again not off the mark, given the sites’ attempts at conveying a total branding experience — Mata Amritanandamayi’s stores stock everything from DVDs and VHS tapes, priced between $15 and $27, to books, incense sticks and even unlikely items like ‘essential oil’ at $10, and Amma shower gel and body lotion at $9 each.

The offerings at Sathya Sai Baba’s site seem to cater more to the Indian market and show a considerable amount of technical savvy, with MP3 CDs available at Rs 100 and even a handful of interactive CD-ROMs. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar too offers tapes and CDs priced at anything between $20 each and $280 for a set of 28 tapes, and photographs with calligraphy, along with some rather mystifying products like portable back-rests (in forest green, navy and purple) at $29.

The websites also offer free downloads; Sathya Sai Baba’s site has the most, making it easier than ever before for disciples to plug into the message of their guru of choice

Within Asia, he’s visited Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Mongolia, Japan and Korea, and made a much-publicised and particularly successful visit to Pakistan. The tour schedules are regularly posted and updated on websites, with links for disciples who intend to car pool, travel or stay together.

    God Bless,

  2. Namaste,

Not sure who I need to write but one Paul Heussenstamm's paintings was used on this blog. The image of Amma was painted by Paul at Mandalas.com. Please reference www.mandalas.com if you would like to use the image. Great blog!

Welcome to the spirituality blog

This blog is an offshoot of a website that I had conceived as a result of the spiritual grace and resultant inspiration during Shivaratri Y2K (http://www.jyotirlinga.com) on the joy of Shiva Bhakti and my quest for spiritual progress. Not finding the time (yep, bad excuse!), this blog suits me fine in quickly adding content... my spiritual forays and thoughts - helps log them too. My spiritual journey started with Hinduism and it's simple stories/ teachings as far back as when I was a 2nd grader, with Lord Shiva and has now found convergence with Advaitism / Duality. The Advaitism gurus like Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi, Nisargadatta Maharaj; they have provided that spiritual boost of energy in many lagging moments and have tremendously influenced me ... little baby steps at a time... that will hopefully all lead upto a final crescendo. The merits of satsangh are many!

Your comments (encouragement/ otherwise) are certainly welcome. Thanks for visiting. If you like it, Subscribe to my blog (click here):Posts (Atom).
