Miraculous Shirdi Sai Baba

I can personally attest to the miraculous nature of Shirdi Kay Sai Baba.
I remember going to to Shirdi in the mid 80s as a little kid. Used to a quaint little village a 4-5 hour drive from Mumbai. Every (simple) request of mine was granted during my visits then.
I used to particularly love the slow life (even though we spent only a weekend there), far from the hustle bustle of Mumbai - and the quiet winter nights, adrak chais and no pressure worship....getting up at 5 in the morning, standing in long lines (used to hate that, but cheerfully bear it as we didn't have a choice. Standing in the long lines I got to readup a lot of information about Sai Baba and got to introspect about it quite a bit. In that reverie, I would try to imagine how it would have been when Sai Baba was actually doing his service in that village in the middle of nowhere), getting darshan after a few hours and enjoying a good hearty breakfast, putting a huge garland on our car and then driving back. Thus, cars driving back from Shirdi were easily identified. Back in those days, we were allowed to touch the samadhi of Sai Baba, take pictures etc. No terror threats. We had the special Shirdi kay Sai Baba prasad dinner once, bhakar with sabzee only once (I think it was subsidized) but it was quite alright too.
Not too many hotels back then. Lots of Film Stars and cricketers from Mumbai would frequent Shirdi then, and Shirdi kay Sai Baba was just a localized phenomenon.

I had gotten a hint of how popular Shirdi had become when I met someone from AP prancing about in a Shirdi kay Sai Baba locket.

I had the chance to visit again in 2005 and I was amazed to see Shirdi become a bustling metropolis. The word has spread and there are followers from all over the world now. Darshan is now a quick process as you are asked to move on. Camcorders are totally not allowed. It makes me yearn for the terror free 80s and for Shirdi to become the quaint town it used to be.

There is a TV show running in Indian TV that seems like has been quite well done.

Welcome to the spirituality blog

This blog is an offshoot of a website that I had conceived as a result of the spiritual grace and resultant inspiration during Shivaratri Y2K (http://www.jyotirlinga.com) on the joy of Shiva Bhakti and my quest for spiritual progress. Not finding the time (yep, bad excuse!), this blog suits me fine in quickly adding content... my spiritual forays and thoughts - helps log them too. My spiritual journey started with Hinduism and it's simple stories/ teachings as far back as when I was a 2nd grader, with Lord Shiva and has now found convergence with Advaitism / Duality. The Advaitism gurus like Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi, Nisargadatta Maharaj; they have provided that spiritual boost of energy in many lagging moments and have tremendously influenced me ... little baby steps at a time... that will hopefully all lead upto a final crescendo. The merits of satsangh are many!
